Like many inventions, it wasn’t considered as an air-conditioner when it was first invented. The reason for inventing an air-conditioner was further than the purpose that we use for now. The story started in 1901 when Willis Havilan Carrier started to work for a publishing company, Buffalo Forge, after he graduated. They had many publishing problems because of high temperature in the room. Carrier, whose wage was 10 dollars a week, found a solution for the problem. He started to cool machines that they use for publishing.

The patent for cooling in this way belongs to Carrier. But the term “air-conditioner” belongs to a textile engineer, Stuart H. Cramer.

The first air-conditioner regarded as a modern air-conditioner was used in J.L Hudson Department Store in 1924. It was first used in cinemas and theatres. After the 1950s, it was started to use in houses and shops.

Now air-conditioning sector is one of the most important and developing sector of global commerce with hundreds of companies and their over billion budgets.

If we classify air-conditioners into 2 groups, we can say industrial and individual. Industrial air-conditioners called multi-split air-conditioners are used in large buildings such as supermarkets, hotels, shopping malls, factories etc… Others are used in houses or small shops.
